Art: Allotments by Artist Amanda Hone
The UK being a rather small island with quite a lot of people on it we are sometimes a bit pushed for space. Allotments are small areas of land set aside for people without gardens to rent and grow a few vegetables or flowers on. Viewed from above they resemble a glorious green patchwork come the height of the summer.
This piece is my representation of those allotments. It is constructed from many many different fabrics and yarns all sewn together and attached to canvas which has then been stretched over a wood frame.
Each square was constructed seperately and started as a background piece of fabric with various scraps sewn in before being joined to each other square.
In addition to the various textiles there are also parts of an acrylic painting on paper that has been cut into small pieces and several differnt colour threads.
A very long process but extremely rewarding.
