Art: A Little Higher - Scarlet Macaws by Artist Susie Barstow
I love the way parrots can ruffle up the feathers in the area that they want to be scratched. They look so darling that way.

I was invited to be a demo artist in the fine art section at the Southern California Exposition in the early 90's and I chose flying Scarlet Macaws. Their colors seem to be the most brilliant and I wanted people to see the beautiful colors that could be created with watercolor. I had so much fun doing that. Scarlet Macaws are beautiful, but have a reputation for being a bit difficult. Alan Jackson was singing at the fair, and he came by my demo and came up and complimented me. I was so surprised I forgot to ask him for his autograph.
