Long Walk - Short Pier

- by Caroline Lassovszky Baker

This week's theme: Quilts II

quilt(kwilt)
n.

  • A coverlet or blanket made of two layers of fabric with a layer of cotton, wool, feathers, or down in between, all stitched firmly together, usually in a decorative crisscross design.
  • A thick protective cover similar to or suggestive of a quilt.

Quilts, whether tradional, modern, functional or decorative, are a part of the history and heritage of many families in almost every culture. When you consider this and the creativity, artistry, skill and care with which quilts are created, the above definition hardly seems adequate.

Art: Long Walk - Short Pier by Artist Caroline Lassovszky Baker
Just an abstract composition made with fabric, thread and stuffing. All fabrics hand dyed / screen printed / discharged or a combination thereof, by me. The majority of it was originally white or unbleached except fot the binding, which was a red 100% cotton and the back, which was some kind of synthetic sateen and started out orange. The other pieces on the front are various silks and cotton fabrics, including the cotton canvas I usually paint on. Various cotton and synthetic threads.
