Unnamed Mask 7

- by Tony Roberts

This week's theme: Masks

A mask is a covering for part or all of the face. It can protect or conceal. It can be a likeness. A mask can be humorous or meant to frighten. They are used for fun, for ritual, celebration and for decoration.

Art: Unnamed Mask 7 by Artist Tony Roberts
Tony Roberts' fused glass masks are rich in colours created by metals fused directly into the glass while its in its molten state. This mask is full of character, which changes as the light changes round it: some colours become more vivid, others soften; there are many faces, many stories, to be discovered here. This mask is a successful example of what Tony attempts to incorporate in all his work... it's an exploration of the complex and many-faced nature of people. This work is currently un-named: Tony intends to name it as requested by its purchaser: it's only when the mask is finally hung in its permanent home that the making of the mask is complete! What would you name it? The mask is ready to hang, on a wall, in a window, or outside in the garden. It can endure wind and rain, snow and storm. It will outlive us all...
