Robin Redbreast #1

- by Linda J. McGarvey

This week's theme: It's For The Birds

In our area, the activity at the many backyard bird feeders is really heating up. Soon there will be so many birds coming and going that spending time on the porch or the patio will offer some of the best entertainment in town.

Art: Robin Redbreast #1 by Artist Linda J. McGarvey
This is the first panel in a four-panel series depicting Robin Redbreast. The panel was designed and executed by me using the copper foil method, with Spectrum, Wissmach, Kokomo and Gecko glass. The detail on the flower is painted. The bird's eye is a Swarovski flat-backed crystal. The panel is 7" square. This is a commissioned work. When I originally received the request for a four-panel set of Robin Redbreast, I assumed that the customer was referring to the American Robin. Luckily my intuition told me to check, otherwise this project could have gone very wrong. When I researched the name, I found that it refers to the English Robin, which is a much smaller, more colorful bird which resembles a thrush or a wren. Armed with that information, I viewed hundreds of photos of the English Robin until I settled on my designs. The customer was thrilled with the result.
