Taro Fields.jpg

- by Melanie Pruitt

This week's theme: Farms

Agriculture and the domestication of animals allowed mankind to stop wandering and settle in one place. This is what gave rise to societies, unique cultures and was the first step in the world we have created. And in spite of all the time that has passed since the first seed was planted, in spite of all that we have made and the many ways that we have changed - it is still the farm upon which it all rests and keeps it all going.

If you are familiar with my art portfolio, you know how much I love the island of Kauai. This landscape is one of my favorite stopping places on the North Shore.  "Taro Fields" was painted from several reference photos I took on my last visit. This beautiful valley filled with taro fields, backed by majestic tropical mountains is near Hanalei Bay. I can never visit without stopping at least once at this spot to admire the gorgeous greens, searching the mountains for distant waterfalls.  SOLD
