
Aine of Knockaine was considered to be the Irish moon goddess. She was said to have mated with several humans creating a fairy / human race thus bestowing the rite as "Fairy Queen" apon her. Also called "She of a Thousand Names" she has numerous counterparts such as Danu in Celtic mythology, Isis in Egyptian mythology, and Ishtar of Indian mythology.
This piece depicts her offspring amongst the flowers and vegetation Aine is said to protect.
