These train cars stand patiently in long rows, stagnant on sidings without any engine to pull them. They stand and wait while rust, brought on by idle downtime, dulls usally shiny, well worn wheels. Trains are one of my passions. I grew up actually surrounded by them, I had the B&O line so close to my home growing up as a kid, I'd fall asleep at night listening to a long line of freight cars go rumbling by. On the other side of town was the Amtrack and SEPTA commuter rails, mostly carrying passengers up and down the east coast, but they where electric and very quit compared to the load diesel engines struggling to pull their heavy loads in and out of Philadelphia. This image was captured using a Canon 10D digital fitted with a 28mm wide angle lens. No retouching was needed only some cropping to fill the final print size of 13 x 19 inches.
