Art: Queen City Pool House by Artist Joni Gruber
This Art Deco Pool House in Tuscaloosa, Alabama was designed in 1941 by the architect Don Buel Schuyler, an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright. Sadly the building sits vacant due to the lack of upkeep and is an endangered site on the National Register of Historic Places. Olympus Camedia C2100 used, then image manipulated via digital imaging software.

As I walk around this wonderfully small and unique site, I am saddened that there are so many plans for high rise luxury condominiums of non-descript architectural style to be built here along the banks of the Black Warrior River. I fear the ground beneath the Pool House has more value to the developers than the historical building has with the city and general public and thus will be razed in order to make room for another condo with a river view. What a missed opportunity to re-open the site as an Amphitheatre/Art festival space/and other mixed use cultural public space.
