I see London, I see France...I see someone's underpants!

My mother used to use a clothes line to dry our clothes when I was a child. We lived on the second floor of a 3 flat in Chicago and the line was on a pulley out the back porch window. The pulley squeaked loudly as she loaded up the line and then pulled the wash in when it was dry. If a sudden storm blew in she would race to the porch and pull the clothes in as fast as she could so the dirty city rain wouldn't necessitate that she re-wash the whole load.

The view from the back yard was of the complete load of laundry for that day. My underwear hung along side my parent's underwear and my sister's diapers. It was a snap shot of a family at a moment in time.

The subject of this show made me giggle (of course!) but especially since I rarely see anyone's underpants hanging on a clothes line outside anymore. People use dryers now.

I can't help but wonder if children are missing out on something, some information that would make their adult lives better for having seen the underwear of men, women, the young and the old regularly. Have we become too modest?

I took this photo in my backyard where there is a rarely used clothes line on a lovely New Mexico afternoon. It made me remember how fresh and clean clothes dried on a line smell when you fold them.
