This portrait was worked in Oil with a somewhat unusual technique.
First I rendered the pencil drawing onto the white canvas.
Then I painted the entire canvas with a wash of burnt umber.
With the use of tissues I wiped back the paint where i wanted the highlights to be.
In the areas where I needed more contrast I applied more burnt umber.
The resultant portrait reminds me of an old sepia photograph.
