The creative and artistic side of me cannot but admire the sculpture of Edwards. Depicting a beautiful, goddess like figure, in a very sensual pose as to say to the world “I am having a baby” it makes it look easy and almost erotic.
The mother/woman side of me goes: “WOW” a birth of a child, did I look as beautiful as Brittany having a baby? Was I at ease as Brittany appears without any sign of pain, I try to relive the pain of labor and I cannot remember, but I do remember another feeling, that feeling that with each of my children I was instrumental in the making of a miracle. All debates of pro-life versus pro-choice, what does it really mean? All I know is that birth is part of nature, nature is part of creation, birth is creation. I pondered whether I should do another painting while capturing the feelings the statue arose in me, when I realized I had the same feelings when I painted “Pensieri of Davide” translated from Italian “thoughts of Davide”. It was not the Davide of Michelangelo that inspired me to create the painting but reflections of life seen as a circle of events, mysteries that unfold with each year passing. The past versus the present always sums up to births.., as a viewer looking at “Pensieri of Davide” you will see a story unfolding, an expecting Mom, a child, the figure of Davide saying life always was and will always be.
The painting is oil on canvas, I had glazed the white canvas with a warm color and then I let the colors, the texture of the paint guide me through it, I was completely immersed and lost in the action of “Pensieri of Davide”, it depicts life as I believe to Dan with Love does too.
