Art: The Sacred Feminine by Artist Aislinn Brander
When I read the prospectus for the art show 'To Dan, with love" I took a look at his provacative and inspring sculpture.

While my views on 'pro-life/pro-choice' I will keep to myself, I can easily grasp both sides of this topic.

I have recently finished reading 'The Davinci Code' and I have learned alot from Ban Brown's work of 'fiction'. Thus further inspration...

I have always enjoyed the study of theology and religion, with an emphasis on pagan and Goddess Based religions.

That sculpture brought all of my thoughts, ideas and wonderment about 'The Sacred Feminine' in general to the surface... Even someone as popular, idolized, loved and despised as Ms. Spears can achieve that infinite moment where they are sacred in this universe. The act of giving life. Bringing life.

That miracle has never ceased to fascinate people from the dawn of time. Women were once worshipped for this incredible miracle.

I chose a drawing by Da Vinci as my inspiration, and drew it while sitting at my computer after having seen the sculpture and read the prospectus...While this is just a head study, I sought to embrace the softness, the humanity and the contented beauty of a pregnant woman. Da Vinci always managed to capture that essence in his drawings and his paintings. His women always seemed to have a wisened look, a contented look. and a look of mystery and all knowing.

I drew with what I had laying around, and while I don't even particularly like pastels as a medium, I keep them for quick sketches and studies. I used some colored eavy paper that is 11"x14" and is a light tan color. I used mainly brown pastel ( Burnt Umber) and some Black. Thank you for looking. This Drawing is available for purchase.
