Odysseus, having escaped to the Pheacians, hangs around long enough to take in a concert by the blind singer Demodocus who performs two numbers, the second is the amusing tale of a love affair between two Olympian gods, Aries and Aphrodite . Aries survives the affair and later gets a gig as the Roman war god Mars.
