This is my entry into the Spam & Trout show, and it was a joy to paint because it takes me back to my childhood and the times I shared fishing with my Dad. The painting could easily be called 'Nostalgia'.
First to the painting and its story. Painted with quality acrylics on an 8x10 canvas panel, I also finished it with a matte sealer to protect and enhance. Signed and dated. My two kitties are fishing for trout (using cane poles - which is why they are soooo bent) on their favorite lake in the Sierra foothills. When He catches a very large beauty, She asks, "Good grief, what are you using for bait?" He replies, "jumbo chunks of Spam; you just caught the can."
They are sitting on a small peer jutting out into a cove. Behind them, a 'Spam' crab waits for tidbits as do the trout in the lake. Beyond, a 'Spam' sailboat approaches with a fresh supply of 'bait'.
To my story -- the reason behind the painting --
It would seem I am one of the rare humans who actually likes Spam! My Mom fried it up for breakfast with eggs and toast quite often. One morning my Dad, who was an avid fisherman said, "Hummm. If we like this, why wouldn't trout?" His next day off, we went fishing for trout using chunks of Spam as bait, and caught our limit in no time flat!
To this day, I love to eat trout and I still adore Spam. Though not necessarily together, both are way yummy!
