Trout Snout is inspired by my true story.
The way it is told, my father took my older brother and I on a fishing trip while my mother stayed home. After a grand time of fishing, dad began to clean the fish. He had caught several rainbow trout, and I was enthralled by the iridescence of the scales. My father says I walked up to him and said, "Daddy, can I have the fish faces?" After that speech, my dad couldn't resist his little girl's wishes. Stifling his laughter, he sliced off a small piece of the fish, right at the snout, and told me that I couldn't let mommy see what he'd given me. When we got home, I immediately hid my treasure in my toy box. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for the smell to give my little secret away. When my mother asked my father why he'd do such a thing, he laughed and asked her if she'd be able to resist a little girl asking for a fish face!
This is the other part of my fish face. He's happily swimming away, waiting for his snout to heal. Aren't you glad they have waterproof bandaids now?
