Today, news blasts us from every angle--television, computer, Time Square big screens, billboards... Not so for our great grandparents. They had to tune in to their radios at specific times to listen to President Roosevelt tell them about current events. My painting, Fireside Chat, depicts one such woman who tuned in at 10:00 p.m. on December 9, 1941, to hear for the first time about America's declaration of World War II.
