I did pay a shamefully small price for the stamps, but i found them in a yard sale where people get rid of their junk! Of course it comes in more than 30000 stamps in that deal, and i sort thru the stamps to find those that are useful for me. I collect old stamps myself, so i added some of my own collection. It is a collage of old/vintage Canadian stamps from around 1950s, look closer you will see some stamps, especially the ones around center, bear special yet very common cancel marks from post office, they are called Round Cancels, usually provide date and year when the mail is being mailed. I love them more when they are a perfect circle like a full moon rather than only showing half or being cut off (part on stamps part on envelope) like left over pizza. The whole art is inspired by Mosaic art and the idea of saving our wild lives. We are not allow to kill goose in Canada, and this piece is about hunting goose/wild lives and their consequences. just imagine the whole piece of art is a blue sky, the cross in the center is the corss that usually comes in a gun for aiming, the round cancels are the focal point from the lens of the gun where people use to aim and shoot. Sorry i don't know how to explain more clearly because i know nothing about gun in first place. In this art, hunters are aiming and hunting for goose ignoring the rules of saving wild lives. The teaching is, if they continue doing these killing events, one day soon all goose will be gone for good, and the only way for them to see goose again is from old/vintage images when goose is still around. Sort of like stop killing , start saving, or you will never see them again in real life. I use stamps hings to stick them onto a large card-stock, which they can still be removed later without hurting the quality of the stamps. It is a fun project and took lots of time brainstorming and creating. I feel this is a very meaningful project because it promotes the beauty of old stamps that you don't see everyday, and also promotes the message of "wild lives saving" plus the contrast between killing/hunting & saving. Which one are you willing to choose? Keeps one thinking! I made another one using the same idea but used old American stamps instead. Check it out as well, that one is easier for Chinese readers to understand though.
