My greatest wish is for people in this world to look with a creative eye, pick up the trash and make it new and really understand that our resources are not infinite.
The tyvek makes me laugh. I always knew it as insulation or "house wrap" but in researching it.... it is a remarkable material that does not need to end up thrown away.
Tyvek can be cleanly incinerated and it can be safely disposed of in in landfills but it is much more fun to play with.
The necklace is composed of my fused glass art encased in a piece of tyvek that has been colored with acryllic paints and manipulated with a heat gun.
The glass is set in the tyvek bezel (so to speak), resin is used to fix the glass in the tyvek and to hold the small bits of dichroic glass accents.
On the reverse side, a bevy of glass microbeads adorn the tyvek giving a very organic three dimensional feel to the piece.
I get comments all the time that my work is too heavy to wear. The tyvek offers superior strength but is extremely lightweight helping my work become lighter for the wearer yet still giving the massive presence that is my voice in my work and will not be denied.
4/19/07 this show has been eye opening for me....awareness is the key every person, every day, just found this site and wanted to share with my work
