A one time experiment on paper cutting collage. Very exciting to do but whole process require lots of focus, cutting, and time, so only made 2 version of this same piece for fun, sort of like yin & yang effect. I got this wrapping paper from one of my Xmas gift in 1999. The box is large so lots of good looking wrapping paper, perfectly flat. I love this wrapping myself, just caught my eyes and not the usual traditional Xmas paper. So i kept them for this experimental project. the inspiration came from my trip to Hong Kong back in summer 1999. i bought a lot of paper cutting art from China and they fascinate me --- how can anyone possibly cut patterns in such thin paper that look so fragile? So i give it a try myself. I carefully cut everything without cutting off the paper in pieces, You will see another version which is the shadow version of this one. after i cut them, i just glue them into another recycled paper, to empower the message of "recycling used papers". I know the image is very far away from the conservative Chinese patterns. Hey this is what comes to my mind, a fantasy character from space for me to enjoy. I really love this project but it really takes way too much time and efforts to create, so i only create these 2, and i am proud that i did!
