Art: Diana Pott's Pegasus Lhasa Lion by Artist Kelly Olivia Brand
Diana Potts doesn't have a pet, but she has an imagination. That's how she came up with a pet for me to paint for her. She requested something fun, so she asked for a white pegasus Lhasa Apso lion.

Since I own a Lhasa, I was happy to oblige with her whimsical request! I think all Lhasas think that they're lions, and honestly, they should have been born with wings. It would make up for them being so short.

I had a GREAT time painting this, and I hope that Diana enjoys it as much as I enjoyed creating it. It's not often that I get to paint fantasy creatures, and this was more than fun.

This Lhasa pegasus was painted on a canvas panel with professional quality Sennelier oil pastels. I wanted to evoke an ethereal feeling, since I got a sense of mystery and whimsy when I sketched it out. Of COURSE the setting for this magnificent creature would be the sky, as that's where pegasus Lhasas like to hang out.

Now, I just want to add here that this Lhasa has fur on his wings. I know that most wings have feathers, and even the mighty Pegasus has feathers on it's wings...but this is a LHASA pegasus. And, well, if Lhasas have a lot of something, it's fur. So it's fitting that the wings have fur as well. After all, we don't want to ruffle this Lhasa's feathers, do we?

*note: since this is a pet from the imagination, it goes without saying that I don't have a reference photo to post.*
