Wine, Women and Song

This is a whimsical 2 pc set that I did on gessoed wine bottles. The title is symbolic; the support I used represents the "Wine" of the title, the two eyes and glossy red lipsticked lips represent the "Women" and the guitar represents the "Song"... Hence, "Wine, Women & Song" ...

The way I achieved the "wood" grain look on the bottles was, first I covered the bottles with a coat of white gesso. Then I painted a coat of yellow ochre over them... Finally, I hand rubbed iridescent rich copper on top of it, and it kind of seeped into the nooks and crannys (crevices), creating the look of natural wood (to simulate an acoustic guitar). Then I painted on the rest of the details. Some of the other colors I used for the details are: country blue (lavender), purple, red and black.

As we all know, overindulgence in most anything is a recipe for disaster, so these pieces can serve as a gentle reminder for "all things in moderation"...

They would look great on a bookshelf, or mantelpiece, or you could even place flower buds in them.

I show several pictures here from different angles, as well as a closeup for detail. Both pieces have been coated with glossy varnish for protection as well as enhancement of color. I have signed them both on the bottom.

If you have any questions, please email me. Thanks for looking!
