This piece was inspired by Hurricane Katrina. My best friend, Katy, lives in New Orleans and I didn't know where she and her two children were during the storm. The piece reflects the anguish and confusion I was feeling as I searched in desperation for them via every channel I could think of. The four stars represents Katy, her children and me, all reaching out for one another, yet not making the connection until days later. I used Ellen Blakeley's method of tempered glass mosaics to make this piece but conformed the method using some of my own techniques. Included in the pricess are pieces of metal, wire, stained glass, paper and other ephemera.
