This was one of two Mother hood pieces I did as part of a series. I enjoy fantasy art, and mermaids especially. Maternity was first drawn on alderwood, and then woodburned, shaded, and colored with oil pencils diluted in turpenoid for a light wash effect. The wood grain in the background is able to show through and gives a bit of character.
