For 500 years the Mona Lisa has dutifully sat unmoving in posture or expression. She has stayed, uncomplainingly still, in front of a landscape that has never seen a change in seasons. The Mona Lisa is bored.
Mona Lisa Unchained is your chance to set the iconic beauty free from her frame. Perhaps she’d like to experience a different period in time than the one she so familiar with. A change of clothes perhaps, or maybe a change in attitude. She may wish to travel or try a new career. All you have to do is figure out what it is and give her what she wants.
This show is a chance to have fun with a portrait that most everyone on earth has seen. Because she is such a well-known face, it’s important that however you choose to portray her, people will still be able to look at your entry and say “Wow! Look at The Mona Lisa!” not “Who is that?” Or even worse, “What is that?” That’s about it, people. Go exploring with Mona and show us what you found.
