This area in which I live is steeped in rich history, and a great deal of superstition... It is a place where family is very important and they still keep family close even after death as family members are usually layed out in the family parlor to pay last respects and then buried in a small family plot on the family property, to be tended by their loved ones rather than to be placed in a common grave yard and cared for by strangers. So, it is not unusual to encounter or even capture from time to time a "past" relative wandering around an old dwelling or even sometimes a new one as it may contain their past belongings past down thru generations. In this place you just learn to coexist, after all we are all family! This is a piece done by digitally altering a photograph of a family member and then merging it with another photograph taken of this old cabin not to far from my home... I chose to do a photographic representation for this show instead of another media because I wanted it to feel "authentic" like a photograph anyone could have taken and that you were truly experiencing the moment captured on film. The inspiration came from a story my mother-in-law told me about her own personal experience had, while on a visit to her husbands family home, a house where he was born & raised, the home where family members still reside today. An apparition of her husbands already deceased and buried grandmother whom she had never met, laid out in her coffin in the family parlor. These experiences here in this place as I am sure in others are very real... this photograph however is not... just representational.
