I created Humie for the Ripped Off exhibit. Humie is my answer to Patience Anders' "Owlie," a funny little owl with a human face, just relaxing in the woods under the moon. In my version, obviously, I've painted a funny little human with an owl face, hence the name, "Humie." She's just going about her human/owl business (also in the woods, under the moon) as such mysterious nocturnal creatures tend to do.
For this piece I also incorporated Patience's love for using "found objects" as painting surfaces. This painting was done on a wooden plaque I had picked up at a thrift store many years ago. I knew that it would not be right to use anything "new" as that would not be in the true spirit of Patience. I also continued the painting along the sides, as Patience frequently does.
