I’ve been a collector of vintage jewelry for many years, storing pieces whole and in parts that I’ve stolen findings or beads from to make something new. It’s always a thrill as I go through drawers and cupboards and containers galore looking for components to create that piece I have in my minds eye.
For this show I decided to have the 3 required components of metal, wood and mineral, come from something recycled and combine the old with the new.
I created this multi strand necklace using only materials I had on hand. They include size 11 wooden seed beads, brass and base metal closure area, and Tiger Eye stone beads. New is the carved Tiger Eye focal pendant and the amber toned assortment of glass beads.
Photographing this piece in December light proved to be a challenge, I wanted to be able to show the subtle beauty of how the beads compliment each other so well, and I was inspired to sculpt a neck base of snow to use as a display for the photograph, which brings us to the title, Tiger On Ice. Thank you for looking,
Stephanie
