A Thoroughbred on the track is a quivering with pent up energy about to be released. He's a coiled spring, with every muscle begging to do the thing he was born to do, run.
Sometimes it takes a little more than line and shading to express the intensity of this energy. Here I've used bright complementary colors, not one of them a real "horse" color, to portray his excitement. The acrylic paint is applied loosely and quickly, with big brushes. This is the kind of painting that needs to be done quickly, because fussing with it would just ruin it. I don't think I spent more than an hour on this one.
