Pure energy in this magnificent oil. Painted with Holbein Duo Oils, this painting captures the true energy of this rider and the magnificent white horse that carries her through the course.
I have a friend north of me in the next rural town that rides like this. She was the inspiration for this painting. IN the background I chose warm energy colors that contrast the white of the horse. Horses are a gift to man, for work, for play and for relaxation.
Horse and Man blend together here in perfect harmony...something I seek as an artist when I approach a canvas...harmony. This painting unfolded slowly, gathering energy as I went.
When I teach painting to my students, I encourage research into the subject, but I also teach feeling identity before painting. What does the horse feel like? Describe the feeling of the hooves on the horse's front feet in comparison to the back feet. Describe how the wind blows through the mane of the horse in the face of the rider....and close your eyes and imagine yourself as the rider in the saddle with this strength of the horse beneath you. All of this is part of the process of painting... to capture the energy of the rider and the horse.
