A beautiful Arabian Horse with an unusual turned profile...
I chose this position as it is different from the typical 'portrait style'. It offers a rear and sidelong glance.
I saw an ad for a stallion in a horse magazine, and used that photo loosely to base my painting around. The horse in the photo was bay- and this horse is obviously not a bay!
I used oil paints that I applied mostly with a palette knife and used a brush for the mane and the detail on the horse.
This painting was as much fun as it was an experiment in working with the palette knife and the infinite possibilities for color and depth.
As I grow as an artist I find myself enjoying the more abstract paintings instead of the realistic ones I normally paint!
This painting was done 'alla prima' meaning wet on wet paint...
I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed painting it.
