This art card is just a celebration of the equine spirit and beauty. I was exploring the appaloosa coat patterns and thought this many-spotted leopard appaloosa would prove a real challenge! My subject is just a figment of my imagination and is painted on sanded birchwood using gouache paints. I basically started by painting in the horse as a light brown with darker spots, completed the background, and, then built up an overlay of white in fine linework around the spots following the body contours and hair patterns.
