In this painting I chose to use oil on canvas. When doing a painting I like to do several sketches with different color combinations before starting. I like to use contrasting color with thick paint for texture.
I drew inspiration from Flannery O' Connor's complete work. I chose not to illustrate a scene from her writings. Instead, I used symbols to relay her work. The cross in the piece symbolizes her faith which reflects her writing. The background pattern is designed after a peacock; which symbolizes her love and passion for birds. The piece is painted in a grotesque way by using contrasting color and texture. From this I hope it peaks the viewer's interest in learning more about her work.
