I wanted to paint something inspired by the seemingly endless color variations of the pansy, and also by the meaning of a pansy and honeyflower together ("I am thinking of our forbidden love").  I thought a mermaid was the perfect subjec to pull it off!  I wonder who has left her all the flowers?
