Cherry bark is so distinctive that one can identify a cherry tree simply by looking at the bark alone, even if the tree is bare. I used to climb cherry trees, native to our area, and collect the sticky gum that oozes from the branches.
Cherries are still to this day my favorite fruit, and I love cherry trees any time of year, whether blooming or not. This black and white photo captures the glossy bark with the characteristic "eyes."
