I often use antique botanical/naturalist images in my 2D mixed media works, and when the Day of the Dead show was announced, I immediately thought of an image I had of the Deaths-head hawkmoth. It has that eerie skull on it's head! Since this holiday is observed primarily in Mexico, I thought I would include a portion of a very colorful Mexican banknote. I have also included dried rose petals and statice along with a toy skeleton to honor the tradition of keeping this holiday festive.

I used Prismacolor pencils to handcolor the moth and the papers used are handmade.
