This mixed media piece honors one of my favorite artists, Frida Kahlo. Frida's image and artwork are fixtures in Mexican culture, and she's no stranger to shrines and ofrendas in her honor. This nicho celebrates Frida's passion. The little skull "offerings" represent body, mind and soul. Frida's portrait is flanked by milagros and shiny glass "gems". The shadowbox frame is adorned with corazons (hearts), tiny mirrors and glass pieces. The rosary is removable for prayers on El Dia de los Muertos.
