Art: The Graveyard by Artist Virginia Ann Zuelsdorf
This impressionist piece was inspired by a black and white photograph taken in Wisconsin on a hazy autumn afternoon. While I like the photograph, I believe that the painting is much more striking. The feeling of the painting brings back that day so much that I feel I'm there when I view it.

At first glance, you may not see this as a cemetary. That is not deliberate, but the light and shadows are what inspired me the most.

The ghostly saint monument appears to be blessing this fine day, nature's way of celebrating death and the lives of those who went before us.

I used palette knives as well as brushes to create an impressionistic feeling. There are lots of layers or glazes of color in some areas to give a feeling of translucence.
