The subject of this piece was chosen when I decided to take a figurative sculpting class - the human form. I find the human form the most interesting to sculpt - the challenge of trying to make something life-like with my hands - whether it resembles reality or not. Earth clays are especially challenging for me. The reason for this is that I tend to obsess over details and earth clays won't allow me to do this as much as man made clays will. The result is therefore less analyzed and more spontaneous - something I'm currently working on.
The subject of this piece was an especially delicate-looking young woman. I attempted to convey this feeling through the clay.
