I had a cousin in Holland that sent wonderful photographs of Holsteins she took and I painted this, based on a couple of the photographs. I was struck by the nice, sharp shadows created by the sunshine falling on the animals and also found the deep ditches in the photographs visually interesting too and wanted to recreate it in watercolour.
