Here is a scene from Aesop’s tale of “The Hawk and the Nightingale.”

"The Nightingale, about to lose his life, earnestly begged the Hawk to let him go, saying that he was not big enough to satisfy the hunger of a Hawk who, if he wanted food, ought to pursue the larger birds."

The Nightingale pleas for its life to the Hawk’s deaf ears. The Hawk knows not to turn away a meal, no matter how small, for another that may not even come to be.
