Although my teenage daughter is beautiful both inside and out, what I find most interesting about painting her, is what I can't see....the parts of her that she keeps hidden. Like any 18 year old girl, she's a complicated mixture of carefree mischief and fun, and an intelligent and mature persepctive about herself and her world. Throw in some raging hormones.....and there's a whole lot that I think SHOULD be kept hidden! She posed for me in this picture.. and I think part of her face being hidden under her hair, symbolizes that private part of her.
I enjoyed working on 8" x 10" white R-tis-tx Pastel Board for this project. It was a new surface for me, and I loved the rough, sandy texture. It ate up my pastels.. but in a good way! A wonderful product if anyone is interested in trying it.. Made by a guy in Texas.. and can be ordered directly from him on line. I used Great American Art Works and Sennelier pastels.
