Darkness Remains
"Darkness Remains" is an intensely dark and brooding black and white abstract piece. It measures 18x27x.75". I used only black and white pigments in creating this, and in certain areas they seem to blend and create gray.
The overall image seems foreboding and menacing and reminds me of bones in a graveyard cemetary (Of course the term "Remains" is often used as a euphemism for a deceased body...)
Or perhaps it's even more abstract than that; perhaps it can be construed as the visual manifestation of what depression feels like (trapped in darkness). It's a stark, and (IMHO) scary, yet somehow still beautiful piece.
The way I created this, was I first laid down some bold black lines, and then as they were drying, I spread the paint by brushing the black lines with a "dry-brush" technique (this created the gray, "sketchy" look of depth). Then I used the titanium white to highlight and bring out the abstract design.
Finally, I painted the sides black for a framed effect. This is a very bold and striking piece.
