I was looking for something ordinary to draw. I searched and finally decided on my nightstand table. I liked the eclectic feel of everything together. Strangely, as I drew, the objects together began to become a philosophy or a depth to the person whose nightstand this belonged to ... me. I saw the elements of life throughout the collection; the flowers, the stuffed lizard, the dragonfly, the plants and the pinecone. But also, there were elements of death; the dead roses and the skull. We strive for life and yet somehow death always insinuates it's way into the fabric of our being. The secret behind these ordinary things is that they tell us so very much about the person or about life in general. They convey a personality, a psychology about the person who owns them.
Painted on: 140 lb. cold press, pH neutral, 100 % cotton rag.
