This is the second in my "Speedo" series, the first idea unfolding into the second...and there will be a third! Today, Speedo has built a sandcastle on the beach, as he sits and admires his work of art, a sand crab has staked his claim while another soaks up some rays on his raft in the mote! It looks like the crabs will take over until the tide comes in! This piece was carefully sculpted in polymer clay, painted in detail with acrylics and given a protective finish. Polymer clay is a wonderfully versatile medium which fares well in all indoor climates. For those who may be unfamiliar with polymer clay, it comes in a variety of textures and colors, some clays by design are made to be somewhat flexible after curing, this high quality clay however is one that is made to have the feel of porcelain, it is very heavy and hard, also extremely durable and chip resistant. Using the proper paints and finishes, these are sculptures that will be enjoyable for a lifetime. After the sculpture was sealed, I used clear resin to fill the mote with "water" and the crab on his little raft will float forevermore! For that final finishing touch, I lined the underside of the sculpture with felt. This one of a kind creation would make a truly fun addition to your Corgi collection!
