I was moved to do a Gandhi chair at the suggestion of a recently acquired friend. It took me 2 weeks, longer than most. The dove at the top of Gandhi's head represents, of course, his non-violence philosophy. I downloaded this famous photo and took it through Photoshop. Then painted what was left. His smile exudes love. The seat is sanskrit for AHISMA, or truthforce, painted, then stitched in yellow thread. In keeping with my "props" idea (see Phantom chair) a pillow will also be a part of this chair. The soft colors reflect Gandhi's goodness, in contrasting relation to the sacrifices, torture and discrimination he endured in his life.
