This piece was done for my recent North Light book, Watercolor Pencil Magic--it was not done on the spot, but the sketch it came from was! I gave a workshop years ago for Maine Coast Workshops, and every morning got up by 4 or 4:30 so I would have time alone to walk and sketch. These two small trees--which I also call "Someone to Watch Over Me"--were beside the road leading to Port Clyde--I fought blackflies and mosquitoes for this one! Later, I tried out watercolor pencils and was very happy with the atmospheric effect of the early morning in Maine.
