Artist comment: Over the kite festival at Lincoln City, Oregon, many spinsocks filled an early summer sky. I was particularly drawn to this one, as red, white and blue are my very favorite colors in combination. The positioning of the sock is interesting because of the vantage point. It looms large! After carefully sketching the subject on the canvas, I oil painted the background. When it was dry, I began with the whites, then the blues, and finally the reds. Finally I articulated the stars, then added the major line and smaller lines.
