This is a winter coated ermine, a member of the weasel family, which is found worldwide in the Northern hemisphere. They are very small carnivores, weighing less than a pound, but don't hesitate to tackle prey larger than themselves. The painting is done with various media on Bristol board.
The title refers to the centuries old practice of using the skins of ermines as trims on the robes of royalty. I wanted to show one alive and in it's natural habitat.
