I have experimented in the past with the idea of what "Alien" flowers might look like. It took me awhile to get this one to the particular idea I had in my head, but the title fits it well, and that was the purpose. I have used colors for the background that might be considered somewhat "non-traditional," as well, with metallic blue, brown, purple and green being a "bed" for the foreground.
